About

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, advised by Prof. Chengcui Zhang, with graduation expected in Spring 2027. I develop adaptive machine-learning methods for heterogeneous temporal and multimodal data. My research connects multivariate time-series forecasting with healthcare AI, including longitudinal clinical prediction, multimodal fusion, and medical image analysis.

I am on the academic job market, seeking tenure-track assistant professor positions beginning Fall 2027.

I bring university teaching experience across core computer science and AI courses, experience developing curricula, and a record of mentoring undergraduate research through peer-reviewed publication. I founded and led the DIU NLP & ML Research Lab (2017–2021) and previously interned with the Bixby ML Team at Samsung Research America.

Research Interests

My research develops adaptive machine-learning methods for heterogeneous temporal and multimodal data. My primary methodological work focuses on multivariate time-series forecasting through signal-aware representations, learned contextual encodings, adaptive mixture-of-experts routing, and directed cross-variable dependency learning. In a complementary research direction, I develop healthcare AI methods for longitudinal clinical prediction, multimodal fusion, LLM-derived contextual representations of clinical narratives, and medical image analysis.

Selected Research Contributions

Adaptive Multivariate Time-Series Forecasting

• Developed STAR, a regime-guided architecture that adapts spectral and trend representations using signal-derived characteristics of heterogeneous multivariate time series. STAR achieved the best or second-best average MSE on four of five benchmarks across forecasting horizons and received the IEEE IRI 2026 Best Student Paper Award.
• Extended this research through learned contextual encodings, adaptive mixture-of-experts routing, counterfactual utility estimation, and intervention-based learning of directed cross-variable dynamics.

Longitudinal and Multimodal Healthcare AI

• Developed models for BK virus-associated nephropathy using longitudinal kidney-transplant records. A BK PCR trajectory model achieved ROC-AUC 0.981 and PR-AUC 0.809; a multimodal transformer integrated laboratory trajectories, medications, patient characteristics, and clinical-language-model representations through multi-resolution temporal encoding, context-conditioned fusion, and temporal-neighborhood attention, and evaluated zero- and few-shot LLM labeling of pathology narratives.
• Developed a weakly supervised multiple-instance learning (MIL) pipeline for false-positive reduction and case-level classification among suspected breast-cancer cases, combining DICOM preprocessing, tumor-region extraction, OCR-based margin-label detection, and patch-level spatial analysis.

Temporal Information and Low-Resource Language Technologies

• Contributed to Chronofy, a temporal-logical decay architecture for estimating the validity of retrieved information through time-sensitive decay and logical consistency modeling.
• Developed attention-based neural models for English-to-Bengali machine translation and abstractive summarization, addressing representation and generation challenges in low-resource, non-Latin text.

Low-Resource Vision and Applied Machine Learning

• Contributed to Ekush, a Bangla handwritten-character dataset containing more than 673,000 instances across 242 classes, and to the development of the EkushNet convolutional recognition model.
• Research includes body-fat estimation and multimodal harmful-algal-bloom detection using satellite imagery, climate variables, and elevation data, including metadata analysis and label refinement supporting a co-authored publication.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching rests on two convictions: that education is fundamentally about human development, and that a student's time is their most valuable resource. Inspired by Randy Pausch's The Last Lecture, I pair rigorous fundamentals with hands-on projects and mentor students toward independent inquiry. As I like to put it, in learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.

Curriculum and Instructional Development

• Developed curriculum components and instructional materials for Data Structures at Independent University, Bangladesh.
• Designed Python-based Structured Programming curricula at Daffodil International University, with separate learning pathways for computer science and non-computer-science students.
• Developed the extracurricular Road to Research program through the DIU NLP & ML Research Lab, providing undergraduates with hands-on instruction in Python, data preparation, machine learning, and introductory convolutional neural networks.
• Contributed to the development and evaluation of Course Outcome–Program Outcome (CO–PO) mapping for curriculum assessment and faculty review at Daffodil International University.

Student Mentoring and Supervision

• Supervised undergraduate theses, capstone projects, and internships at Independent University, Bangladesh, Daffodil International University, and Britannia University.
• Founded and led the DIU NLP & ML Research Lab (2017–2021), mentoring student teams in natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, and predictive modeling from experimental design through scholarly publication.
• Co-supervised student-led research with Prof. Syed Akhter Hossain, providing primary day-to-day technical mentorship that contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications.
